Dog Behaviour and Training Advice
Did you know we offer one to one dog behaviour and training advice for clients and their dogs?
Carole Stewart, our Practice Administrator and Nursing Assistant has been offering Behaviour and training advice for the past 4 years and during this time has helped many of our clients with varying behaviour and training issues with their dogs. She is accredited to Level 4 in the subject which is equivalent to a Higher National Certiificate and hopes to take her qualifications to degree level.
She has been with the practice for 26 years and has four dogs. All her dogs have come to her with some degree of behavioural problems which is what prompted her to study the subject to develop a greater knowledge and understanding. The picture is of Bert, her now 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier who she rescued at around the age of 5 months. Bert had been left abandoned in a flat for several weeks, with someone visiting him only once a day to feed him. As he missed out on so many experiences at a crucial time of his development, he came to her a very frightened and fragile little boy. After lots of hard work with him, he is now a happy, sociable dog.
So far, she has taken part in the University of Edinburgh Introduction to Companion Animal Welfare and Behaviour course, Think Dog! Certificate in Canine Behaviour, Think Dog! Intermediate and Think Dog! Advanced.
She is able to offer one to one consultations, either in your home or at the surgery on a wide range of problems. All consultations include an initial visit to ascertain the problem, a second visit to provide detailed personalised plans and demonstrations and unlimited back up along the way.
If you have any training or behaviour problems with your dog, please contact the surgery for more information.
Carole is also working towards becoming a member of the APDT, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the UKRCB, the UK Registry of Canine Behaviourists, two highly acclaimed organisations that support the correct education of trainers and behaviourists.
