People tend to think it’s only older pets that get ill and therefore younger pets don’t need pet insurance but we know from the patients we see each day that that is not the case. In fact, the younger your pet is when you insure them the better as it means you are less likely to have any existing conditions, which may not be covered by the policy and you can then receive more help covering the cost of any future treatment your pet needs. It is important to note that not all pet insurance is the same. There are many different types of policy available and the level of cover provided can vary considerably.
The four main types of policy are as follows:
Accident: provides cover for accidents only and no cover for illness
Time-Limited: provides cover for a set amount of time (usually 12 months) and after this period the condition is excluded
Maximum Benefit: provides cover up to a maximum amount of money per condition and once this limit is reached the condition is excluded
Lifetime: provides a set amount of money each year which is refreshed each time you renew your policy allowing you to continue to claim for ongoing conditionsprovides cover for accidents only and no cover for illness
As you can see from the information above, the type of policy you choose can have implications for the veterinary care of your pet and the costs you will face so it’s important to choose the right cover. Sometimes, the cheapest insurance can cost you more in the long run. When shopping around for a policy, we suggest that you ask the following questions to allow you to compare the overall value you are getting, not just the price:
1. Does this policy cover congenital, hereditary, hip-related, dental and behavioral conditions?
2. Is there a time or monetary limit on how long this policy will cover ongoing conditions for?
3. If I claim, will my premium increase?
Unlike other forms of insurance it is not easy to switch pet insurance in the future as any pre-existing conditions your pet has are likely to be excluded so it’s important to do your research and choose the right cover from the start.
Great vets, took our Border Terrier to get neutered, he was ready within a couple of hours but because I was at work until 5pm they were happy to keep him until I could get there. The staff were lovely and the price was reasonable. Best of all Powis vets accepted our dogs trust voucher for getting him neutered.
Visited for the first time today with my daughter and her cat. They could not have been kinder and more caring. (Sadly had a couple of bad experiences recently with other vets). I have no hesitation in recommending Powis Vets. Thank you.
All staff are lovely and our puppy seems to love it there, despite every time she goes getting an injection or a thermometer up her bum, so that says a lot really.
Would definitely recommend taking your pets for treatment. They have looked after all of our families pets throughout the years. I pass a local vet to get to them, just to bring my pets to people I trust.
Have had our cats registered here for the last year, always friendly and helpful service, the best of care for our girls and with the healthcare club it’s a great deal. Love the separate sections for the cats and dogs however can be difficult for frightened cats such as ours when the dogs are quite rowdy.
Couldn’t recommend Powis Vets enough, all their staff are amazing and have a genuine care for your pets. It’s not just about the pocket profits and they all go above and beyond.
Thank you powis
What a lovely team that work within this practice, I have used them for a number of years with our wonderful boy Harvey. Over the years he has needed various operations and care, Saul and his colleagues have been truly fantastic we can’t thank them enough. Last week we made the heartbreaking decision to allow him to leave us and go climb that rainbow. Saul was very compassionate and we felt he understood our grief at that time, today we collected his ashes and he is back home once again.
Thanking you all for your fusses and love you showered upon him.
I never leave comments but I just had to for PowisVets absolutely fantastic service all the staff are brilliant, sadly had to have our dog put down last week and everyone has been so kind and compassionate. So grateful to everyone especially Lucy one of the vets for calling me and clarifying a few questions I had can’t thank you all enough.
Today we took our dog Trickie for dental treatment. Trickie is a very nervous dog & we were 2 very anxious owners. Will promised to look after her & he did. He guided, helped & supported us all the way through. Will is obviously very caring & committed when he looks after all our pets. We are so glad we moved to PowisVets. Trickie came home a very happy dog. Thank you!
Wasn’t happy with my vets in Kinver so I thought I’d give PowisVets a try. Glad I did, they are more friendly and knowledgeable and also a little less expensive.
Sadly needed Powis when our rabbit reached the end of a good life and we can’t say thank you enough to Will who looked after us. He was professional, empathetic and went out of his way to ensure that a very difficult experience was handled in the way you would hope it to be. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
Thank you for all your help and kindness to all the staff. And Lucy and William for looking after Lloyd. You two also helped me with Lloyd passing away and how kind you were with him and me and my daughter x
Just want to say a huge thank you to your staff during one of the hardest days of our lives but sending our amazing Labrador Max across the rainbow bridge. We hadn’t been with you long but during our time your staff did everything they could. Thank you for everything and I would really like to recommend your VET to anyone.
